The Sahasra Chandi Yaga was held from Dec. 12 ,2000 to Dec. 19,2000. The function was a grand success. The whole program was
headed by Gouda Saraswath Brahmin Community having about 400 members from 125 families in Kaup. This major
religious ritual has got some credits to it. All the devotees of Sri Mariamma who spread not only in India but also abroad, participated in this major religious function. They gave all sort of supports including money and mental support. Initially a 40 member team was formed to look after the arrangement and each department was assigned a head. Sri Vidyadhiraja thirtha swamiji of Gokarna Mutt released the information book containing the purpose and programs of yaga , in Nasik. This book was send to all the devotees of Sri Devi who spread across the globe. Rest was the history. The committee initially expected around Thirty to Forty Thousands of devotees for 7 days. But it is no wonder that around 5 Lakh devotees visited the place out of which 1.7 Lakh people received "Bhojana Prasadam". During yaga days a self inspired , disciplined queue was maintained to get darshana of sri Devi. The length of the queue was at least one KM long. Water , Tender coconut water was continuously supplied to the people who were in the queue. To prevent the devotees getting heat from the road, water was continuously sprayed on the road. All were having full praise for the yaga- about arrangements and discipline. All major Newspapers gave a massive publicity to the yaga. So the people poured in from all over the State. Even Doordarshan , Udaya TV, Suprabhatha, Kaveri gave full publicity and coverage of yaga. Banners were tied in major places ,Stickers were pasted and banners were tied to buses, other vehicles. Another major publicity to the yaga was given by launching Mahadevi Rath(Chariot). This rath was sponsored by Corporation Bank and traveled in both districts Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The people gave overwhelming support to the Rath wherever it went. Another feature of this yaga was Communal Harmony. The "Yajna Mantap" was built by Sikander Saheb, a Muslim. Also he and his team gave a festive look to the entire city by means of electric decoration and sound effects. A control and information counter was established near the yajna mantapa. All the department heads were given Mobile phones and cordless phones. So they were in communication in case of needs. Each night they were keeping meeting and discussing about the next day's plans. Other attraction of the function was flower decoration. Everybody were in full praise of the decoration. All the credits of success will go to the Volunteers who came from both districts and from outside states. They maintained discipline among them and worked hard towards the success of the function and they have done it. The function was a grand success. This function provided a unity in the community.
